Josh Hartzler is a Biblical Counselor, teacher, writer, and consultant with more than twenty years of experience in counseling ministry, counselor education, missionary assessment, and biblical teaching. He is the founder of Biblical Solutions & Consultation, LLC, where he provides gospel-centered counseling and consultation to individuals, couples, families, churches, and ministry leaders.
Josh earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Counselor Education from The Ohio State University in 2003. After becoming licensed as a Professional Counselor in Ohio, he sensed the call of God to enter full-time ministry and began serving as a Biblical Counselor at Grace Brethren Church of Columbus in 2004.
As part of his theological and ministry training, Josh completed a certificate in the Logos Bible program in 2004. Since 2011, he has pursued graduate studies in religion through Reformed Theological Seminary.
Josh has extensive teaching experience in biblical counseling and ministry training. Since 2004, he has taught counseling modules to students at Grace College. In 2010, he was invited to participate in the Churches Helping Churches Haitian relief effort, traveling to Port-au-Prince to teach and encourage Haitian pastors in biblical counseling principles. He continued teaching at STEP Seminary in Port-au-Prince, training seminarians in principles of premarital counseling until 2015.
Josh also served as Editor of The Veritas Journal, where he led a team of lay counselors and pastors in producing a Christian publication read throughout the United States and in more than 50 countries. The journal addressed a wide range of topics related to the Christian faith, with the goal of helping believers grow in their walk with Christ and apply biblical truth to everyday life.
Since 2005, Josh has served as an assessor for missionary candidates with Crossworld Mission in Kansas City, Missouri. His responsibilities have included interpreting assessment tools such as the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis, reviewing candidate files, interviewing missionary and staff candidates, providing recommendations for personal development planning, and collaborating with international mission directors regarding candidate care and ministry readiness.
After years of serving the greater Columbus community through church-based biblical counseling ministry, Josh founded Biblical Solutions & Consultation, LLC in 2014 to serve both believers and unbelievers with counseling shaped by the hope and truth of the gospel.
Josh and his wife, Ali, have four children. He enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, playing softball, and woodworking.
